letters, Peter’s second letter, Jude—all to some extent were forged in the fires of controversy. So also was the letter to the Galatians. Galatians, indeed, is arguably the prime example. It has to be said that aspects of the false doctrine attacked in this letter are no longer being taught in our churches. But Galatians is anything but outdated. The heresy it combats is, in its essence, widespread, and because of that the letter is no less necessary now than it was 2,000 years ago. Like the letter
